Recently I bought a small wooden sign at Barnes & Noble that announced: Dance to the beat of your Angel’s Wings.
This resonated with me for me as each of our GOA presenters need to hear this message over and over again when they present to one of our monthly Gathering of Angel events. Often the presenters talk at great length about their product or service and leave little time in the allotted 20 min presentation slot for a discussion of Management Team, financial projections, capital needs, use of funds and exit strategy for an early investor. The beat of the Angel’s wings suggest that they want to hear less of the former and more of the latter discussion points. When a GOA presenter spends 15-17 min discussing the product or service and then rushes through what an Angel really wants to hear, rarely does that Angel write a check to the GOA presenter. Even with proper earlier coaching, some presenters get so absorbed in telling their story, they forget to listen to the beat of Angel’s wings.
