The Gathering of Angels began in October, 1996 with the express purpose and mission to provide equity capital to the entrepreneurs of New Mexico. At that time, there were no Venture Capital firms represented in our state and the banks were generally not supportive of entrepreneurial ventures. Collateral in the form of gold bricks or cows were more viewed as part of the loan submissions than a technology business plan, proper valuation or intellectual property.

With three national Laboratories in New Mexico and an aquifer of entrepreneurial passion bubbling up and the inherent need for early equity capital, Anasazi Capital Corporation was formed to provide merchant banking and financial counseling services to the entrepreneurial community resident in New Mexico. Monthly hosting of The Gathering of Angels started on Saturday morning at the Eldorado Hotel in Santa Fe, but when funding failed to occur, we moved to a dinner event with lots of red and white wine and the investment dollars started flowing.

Since October 1996, we have had over 130 entrepreneurial companies come to Santa Fe and present in front of our group that averages 30-50 per evening. CEO's and CFOs of entrepreneurial companies come from all over the USA and in October 1999, we hosted our first Canadian entrepreneurial company that plans to introduce and market Internet kiosks. In November 1999, we made history by being the first investor gathering to broadcast the event LIVE over the Internet courtesy of Voyager Communications Group.

29 Companies have received some level of funding, two firms have done up-mergers into a public shell, and thee have received venture capital funding. Angel checks from $10,000 to $150,000 have been written and many of our group serve on the Board of Directors and offer advice and good counsel to the entrepreneurial management team and often participate in later rounds of financing.

Tarby Bryant, Chairman and and CEO of Anasazi Capital Corporation, personally reviews all business plans prior to issuing an invitation to present at the upcoming Gathering of Angels event in Santa Fe. Expansion of the Gathering of Angels to Scottsdale, AZ and Atlanta , GA are planned for 2000.
